<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic video image generating method that can prevent a stereoscopic video image with an erroneous depth from being produced. SOLUTION: The accuracy of depth estimation is deteriorated in an area of a video image where the contrast is low and the depth cannot be perceived in the area of the video image from the beginning where the contrast is low. Then no depth estimation is conducted for the area with a low contrast where the depth perception is not available and the depth in the area is interpolated by depth values of the surrounding areas. Thus, production of a stereoscopic image with an erroneous depth can be avoided and the arithmetic operations required for depth estimation can be decreased.</p> |
