PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent variance in sensitivity with respect to medium flaw, even if there is variance in the lead core width of the inspection head. SOLUTION: An inspection slicing value corresponding to an effective lead core width is obtained by measuring the effective lead core width of an inspection head 1. The inspection slicing value, corresponding to the effective lead core width, is obtained by, for example, referring to an inspection slicing table 2, where inspection slicing values correspond to 1:1, or calculated by a predetermined equation. After the setting of the inspection slicing value corresponding to the effective lead core width, an inspection track written in a magnetic disk medium by the inspection head 1 is read, a reproducing output is compared with the inspection slicing value by a comparator 3, and the normal state of the magnetic disk medium is determined, based on the result of the comparison.
