The system has a fuel tank, a vapor container, a first vapor line from the tank outlet to a container inlet/outlet with a vapor control valve, a second vapor line from the first vapor line to the engine, a flushing valve controling the flow of vapor in the second line, tank and container vapor pressure sensors and a controler for controling the vapor and flushing valves to isolate the container from the engine while the container is being flushed. The system has a fuel storage tank (10), a container (12) for storing fuel vapor produced in the tank, a first vapor line connecting the tank outlet to a container inlet/outlet with a vapor control valve, a second vapor line between the first vapor line and the engine (14), a flushing valve controling the flow of vapor through the second line to the engine, tank and container vapor pressure sensors and a controler (16) for controling the vapor and flushing valves (24,30) to isolate the container from the engine while the container is being flushed. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of controling the flow of fuel vapor from a fuel tank to an internal combustion engine and a method of controling a fuel vapor retention system. |
