PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform high speed recording with high resolution through a simpler arrangement. SOLUTION: At the time of recording with a recording head 1 having an even nozzle array 2 and an odd nozzle array 3, image data IMG transferred from a host is stored such that raster data being recorded by the even nozzle array 2 is stored in a first image memory IMGE and raster data being recorded by the odd nozzle array 3 is stored in a second image memory IMGO and recording is performed by reading out the data, column by column, from each image memory and then transferring the data to a corresponding nozzle array. Position of a pointer pointing a column to be read out is controlled depending on the interval of two nozzle arrays.
