PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition having a high refractive index anisotropy (Δn) and a liquid crystal element prepared by using the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains a compound represented by formula (1) and at least one compound selected from among compounds represented by formulas (2)-(4) (wherein A1 to A12 are each a fluorinated alkyl or alkoxy or the like; R1 and R2 are each H, F or the like; A13 to A24 are each H, F or the like; m is 0 or 1; R11 is a fluorinated 1-12C alkyl or the like; R21 is R11, F or the like; ring A to ring D are each 1,4-phenylene, 1,4- cyclohexylene or the like; R5 and R6 are each H, F or the like; Z1 to Z3 are each -COO-, -OCO- or the like; b to d are each 0 or 1 provided b+c+d>=1; B1 to B12 are each an alkyl, an alkoxy or the like; and R7 and R8 are each H, F or the like).
