<p>The roll grooving apparatus (10) for rolling a circumferential groove in a pipe is adapted to be mounted on a power drive unit (12) for the axes of driven and idler grooving rolls (42, 58) to lie in a plane which is one of horizontal or at an acute angle to horizontal such that the weight of a pipe between the grooving rolls (42, 58) during a roll grooving operation promotes tracking of the groove. A rotatable groove depth gauge (114) is mounted on a support member (22) of the apparatus (10) adjacent a stop element (100) which engages the support member (22) to determine groove depth, and the gauge (114) is displaceable relative to the stop element (100) into and out of a gauging position in which the stop element (100) can be set to control the groove depth in a given workpiece.</p> |
