PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a constant coefficient of friction between the sliding bearing and sliding surface of a sliding bearing device by reliably discharging water leaked onto the sliding surface to the outside and to wipe and remove water, stains, etc., on the sliding surface through the use of the movements of a building when an earthquake occurs. SOLUTION: This cover 24 for the sliding bearing is constituted by integrating a waterproof sheet 41 as a relatively thin external surface member with a water-holding layer 42 of a sponge-like material or nonwoven fabric as a relatively thick rear surface member by an adhesive. Water on the sliding surface 22 is absorbed by the water-holing layer 42, and the absorbed water is discharged from the outer circumferential face 43 of the water-holding layer 42 to the outside by natural evaporation.
