The present invention provides a mobile station and method for rake finger Ä12Ü allocation for a rake receiver, each received code phase or impulse response being allocated at least one rake finger Ä12Ü and at least one tracking mechanism Ä11a, 11bÜ. The tracking mechanism Ä11a, 11bÜ has an early tracking finger Ä11aÜ and a late tracking finger Ä11bÜ, the tracking fingers serving as both tracking fingers and rake fingers. <IMAGE>
