PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preparation for external use for the skin having synergistically intensified melanin generation suppressing activity, effective for preventing and improving pigmentation, spots, freckles, chloasma and the like after sun burn, having extremely improved skin beautifying effect and having high safety. SOLUTION: The preparation for external use for the skin is obtained by compounding a hinokitiol glycoside with one or more kinds selected from L- ascorbic acid and its salt or its derivative, 2-hydroxycarboxylic acid and its salt or its derivative, hydroquinone and its derivative, cysteine and its derivative, glucosamine and its derivative, azelaic acid and its derivative, and a placenta extract and an extract of specified plants or a algas having tyrosinase inhibiting activity.
