PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fatty acid polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether, by which the ether that is hardly hydrolyzed in an acidic region and in an alkaline region can efficiently be produced in a short time. SOLUTION: This method for producing the fatty acid polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether represented by the general formula: R1C(O)(EO/AO)mOR2 [R1 is a 1 to 40C alkyl or alkenyl; R2 is a 1 to 20C alkyl or alkenyl ; AO is a 3 to 8C alkylene oxide; EO is ethylene oxide; (m) is 2 to 50 which is the total average addition mole number of AO and EO], comprising reacting a fatty acid alkyl ester with a mixture of ethylene oxide with one or more other alkylene oxides in the presence of a metal compound oxide catalyst.
