PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for controlling the intermingling or inversion at the interface between each coated film layers when an intercoat and a top coating are successively applied by a wet-on-wet method, and for forming a lamellar coated film possessing an excellent chipping resistance. SOLUTION: In the film-forming process wherein an intercoat film, a base coated film and a clear coated film are successively formed on a substrate by a wet-on-wet method, the intercoat forming the above-mentioned intercoat film contains an amide group-containing acrylic resin obtained by radically polymerizing an amide group-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer and another ethylenically unsaturated monomer.
