PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated storage and retrieval warehouse facilities and a method for the picking work allowing shortening of the time of picking operation even if no motor-driven trolley is used and also easy enhancement of the efficiency of the operations while the power consumption and likelihood of failures are reduced. SOLUTION: This automated storage and retrieval warehouse facilities 1 is equipped with racks 3 laid in line furnished with a number of goods chambers 2 partitioned in the directions across the width and over the height and a crane 4 which runs around the racks 3 for transporting objects 13, wherein pallet 6 to serve the picking operation is accommodated in the goods chamber 2 located at the downmost stage of racks 3, and the pallet 6 is supported in such a way as lifted by a fork 5 of the crane 4 and transported in the direction perpendicular to the crane running direction.
