PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To materialize a power-converter unit excellent in response having no instantaneous drop or surge of voltage capable of a sequential controlling and making the load voltage sine-wave form within a variable range of an input voltage. SOLUTION: The power converter is constituted by use of a switching circuit that conducts a chopper operation between two different kinds of AC voltages that are led out through the different taps the converter and carry the same phase and a different maximum voltage. In the case that a waveform V1 of an output voltage of an AC power source is a sine wave, a waveform of a load voltage loaded to a load is the same phase of the AC power source containing lots of fundamental waves, and becomes a voltage waveform that is pulsed with high frequency between two transformed voltages in accordance with a winding ratio of a tap T3-to-T4 and a tap T2-to-T4 of an autotransformer 3, and also in accordance with a winding ratio of a tap T1-to-T4 and a tap T2-to-T4.
