PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader, that can prevent an image whose image quality is deteriorated from being recorded or transmitted by controlling at least an image recording means or a transmission means, at the occurrence of a fault in a light emitting means for the image reader. SOLUTION: A white level is checked (S3, S6) respectively before and after a copy operation (S5), and when the white level has an error (S4: 'NO', S7: 'NO'), a recording paper is ejected (S9) and an error is displayed (S10).
