A substrate on which a magnetic material is deposited to form a magnetic memory device is made by coating a highly polished glass sheet with a coating of a non-magnetic metal, e.g. Cu, which is then stripped off and the amorphous thin metal layer is then coated with the magnetic material, e.g. Ni/Fe alloy, on the face formed on the glass. The glass sheet may be pre-coated with Ag, Au, Ni, Pd or Cr after sensitizing with PdCl2, whereby oxidation of the copper film is prevented. The glass sheet is polished with a paste of CaCo3 and water, and the nickel or other non-oxidizing coating up to 20m thick deposited by the electro-less method. The thin copper film is then formed by vapour deposition or electroless deposition, and thickened to 10m by an electrolytic coating. The duplex metal layer is then stripped off and coated with a magnetic layer.
|
