Increasing ultraviolet absorption and reducing fibrillation of lyocell fibers comprises treatment with a sodium stilbene-2,2'-disulfonate (I), phenyl-oxalamide (II), asymmetrically substituted benzene-2-sulfonate (III) or 4,4'-diamino-stilbene-2,2'-disulfonate (IV), which contains both UV-absorbing groups and several anchor groups. Process for increasing the ultraviolet (UV) absorption capacity of lyocell fibers and reducing their tendency to fibrillate comprises treating the fibers with a sodium stilbene-2,2'-disulfonate (I), phenyl-oxalamide (II), asymmetrically substituted benzene-2-sulfonate (III) or 4,4'-diamino-stilbene-2,2'-disulfonate (IV), which contains both UV-absorbing groups and several anchor groups, of the formulae: [Image] R1, R3chlorine (Cl) or fluorine (F); R2, R4Cl, F, hydrogen (H) or a 4-(1-4 carbon (C))-alkylaminophenylamino, 2-(1-4 C alkanoamido)-phenylamino or 3-amido-phenylamino group of formula (IIA-C): R5, R6secondary amino groups with 1-4 C aliphatic groups; R7H or alkyl; R8an amide group; Y : -SO2-CH2-SO2-SO3Na or -SO2-CH-CH2; X : H, Cl or F; A1, A2special anchor groups reacting with cellulose.
