PURPOSE: Metal hydride for use in an anode of a nickel-hydrogen second battery and a preparation method thereof are provided, to not only enhance the initial discharge characteristics but to make it easy to control the manganese ingredient in mechanical alloy process. CONSTITUTION: The preparation method of the metal hydride comprises the first process to make the powder that LaNi5 or Mm-Mn-Ni-Al-Co based CaCu5 alloy is mixed to Zr-Mn-V-Cr-Ni based Laves alloy; second process to impact by a high energy Ball Mill method using an attritor on the powder mixed in the first process to form an alloy mechanically; third process to remove the residual gas contained in pellets formed by the second process; and fourth process to evaluate the hydrogen storage characteristics of the pellet after removing the residual gas in the third process. The obtained metal hydride comprises powders of a main ingredient Zr-Mn-V-Cr-Ni based Laves alloy of 90-99 wt.% and an accessory ingredient LaNi5 or Mm-Mn-Ni-Al-Co based CaCu5 alloy of 1-10 wt.%. |
