An absorbent for oil floating on water, consists of expanded perlite the surface of the granules of which are coated with a silicone. In manufacture, the expanded perlite, whilst still hot from the expansion treatment, is sprayed with an aqueous silicone emulsion. Alternatively, the expanded perlite is coated with an aqueous silicone solution and dried in a stream of air. |
