PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a strut type shock absorber capable of adjusting the car height of a vehicle each time when necessary. SOLUTION: This strut type shock absorber having a knuckle bracket 2 having a cylindrical embracing-holding part 3 for embracing and holding the outer periphery of a shock absorber body 1 and a pair of parallel sandwiching pieces 4 for sandwiching a knuckle arm by extending from the embracing- holding part 3 by installing the shock absorber body 1 on the car body side knuckle arm via the knuckle bracket 2, is featured in that a screw 6 is formed on the outer periphery of the shock absorber body 1, a slit 8 is formed in the embracing-holding part 3 in response to an intermediate part of the sandwiching pieces 4, and after inserting the shock absorber body 1 into the embracing- holding part 3 up to an optional position, the embracing-holding part 3 is fastened via the sandwiching pieces 4, and a lock nut 9 is thread-mounted on the outer periphery of the shock absorber body 1 on the upper end, the lower end or the upper and lower both ends of the embracing-holding part 3.
