The automobile comprises a tailgate (3) and an independent rear window (4) which opens upwards. The upper edge of the window is hinged (43) to the rear of the roof. A balancing actuator (6) connects the window side edge (44) to a corresponding bodywork upright (11). Two cables activated by a motor inside the vehicle enable the retraction of the rear window toward the front of the vehicle.
