PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reproduction quality of a character, that is, to prevent any pale black or the other color from appearing adjacently to the outside of a character edge, and to prevent the black inside the character from being pale, and to prevent a boundary between the inside of the black edge and the black edge from being pale, and to accurately identify whether or not pixels are within the line width of the character, and to prevent the density level distribution of fine parallel line patterns from being erroneously recognized as a character edge. SOLUTION: This color image processing apparatus for digitally reading a color original, and for multi-color overlapping it by using the color materials of yellow y, cyan c, magenta m, and black bk based on read color R, G, and B image data is provided with character detecting means 321, 322, and 326a for detecting whether or not pixels under consideration of the color image data are a character edge area and a means 326b for, when the pixels under consideration are a non-character area surrounded by the character edge area at the formation of a black image, converting it into the character edge area. |
