Apparatus for simultaneously producing current and a further energy form, e.g. mechanical energy and/or an external utilizable heat, from a hydrocarbon-based starting fuel (2) comprises a reformer (4) for partially reforming a starting stream (2a) producing hydrogen; a separating device (10) connected to the reformer for separating hydrogen from the partially reformed fuel stream (8); a fuel cell (16) connected to the separating device; and a combustion engine (6) to which fuel from the separating device is added and mechanical energy is produced, and/or a burner (6) to which fuel from the separating device is added and external utilizable heat is produced. Preferred Features: Additional starting fuel (2b) is added which has not been fed through the reformer to the combustion engine and/or the burner. The separating device is an electrochemical hydrogen pump. The fuel cell is a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell. |
