PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crosslinking agent which hardly has an offensive smell and toxicity and excels in stability in storage and use, and simultaneously, has good compatibility with a hydroxyl group-containing polymer, and a resin composition in which the crosslinking agent is uniformly dispersed in the above hydroxyl group-containing polymer and which is crosslinkable by acid treatment with good efficiency. SOLUTION: The crosslinking agent is composed of a cyclic acetal compound represented by formula (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; R2 and R3 are each a functional group containing a cyclic acetal structure represented by formula (II) [wherein R4 is hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; any one of k1, k2, and k3 is 1 or 2, any one of the remaining two is 0 or 1, and the remaining one is 1; and the atom with mark * is a carbon atom which bonds with a carbon chain in formula (I)]; and m is an integer of 1-7), and the crosslinkable resin composition comprises a hydroxyl group-containing polymer and the crosslinking agent as the major components.
