PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To nuclear-transform a transuranic element to a less-toxic, and stable isotope in simple processing. SOLUTION: A transuranic element transformation device has a sealable steel housing with a window capable of generating fast neutrons by introducing proton beams into the housing and bombarding a spallation target. A heat transfer pipe for holding a trace actinide is installed apart from a trace actinide spaltation target in the housing. A graphite lump is placed within the housing, and the trace actinide is placed between the trace actinide graphite lump and the spallation target. Plutonium and a toxic fissile product are placed in a recess formed in the graphite lump. By being irradiated by the fast neutrons emitted from the spallation target, the trace actinide is nuclear-transformed to one or more less-toxic, stable isotope by either one of fission or neutron capture. The neutrons emitted from the spallation target pass through a moderator, and nuclear-transform plutonium and the toxic fissile product to one or more less-radioactive toxic, stable isotope.
