PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of noise when reversing from a compression stroke to an extension stroke in a hydraulic buffer provided with the positional dependency in the pressure side damping force. SOLUTION: In this hydraulic buffer 10, a communication passage 90 for communicating a piston side oil chamber 48A with a reservoir chamber 73 is provided in barrier members 71 and 72, and a piston rod 12 is provided with a control rod 91 for fitting the piston rod 12 in the communication passage 90 after compressing the piston rod 12 at a constant stroke, and a hollow part 93 is provided inside of the control rod 91. A first hole 94A and a second hole 94B to be communicated with the hollow part 93 are provided at two positions in the axial direction of the control rod 91. When the control rod 91 is fitted in the communication passage 90, the first hole 94A is communicated with the reservoir chamber 73 through a fine passage, and the second hole 94B is communicated with the piston side oil chamber 48A.
