PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a methacrylate based resin excellent in crystal clarity and weatherability, especially retaining a long-term crystal clarity. SOLUTION: This methacrylate based resin is obtained by a radical polymerization in a condition of a molar ratio of a N-oxyl compound expressed by general formula (1) to radical polymerization initiator is 0.00001-0.09. (R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each an alkyl, R5 is H, OH, OR, OCOR, NHCOR or O-[(EO)n+(PO)m]-H, and R5 and R6 get together and express =O, R in the R5 is a 1-18C straight chain or branched alkyl, an (alkyl) alkenyl or an aryl, EO is an ethyleneoxy, PO is a propylenoxy, n and m are each an integer of 0-10, R6 is H).
