PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that hammering and abrasion are generated since a first lock part of a first auxiliary rocker arm and a first engaging part of a lever member are terribly interfered with each other by fluttering of the first auxiliary rocker arm at the time of high rotation, in a conventional device. SOLUTION: The first engaging part 9c and the second engaging part 9d of a lever member upper end part 9a are selectively engaged or disengaged with first and second lock parts 13, 14 of the first and second auxiliary rocker arms 7, 8 according to an operating condition of an engine by a connection switching mechanism 10. A relief groove 13a is formed on an inner end side of the first lock part, and an engaging protrusion part 13b is disposed on its tip end side. When the second auxiliary rocker arm is driven by a high speed cam 5, an upper end of the first engaging part 9c is engaged into the relief groove in a non contact condition.
