PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-efficiency thermoelectric material composed of an inexpensive and enviromentally friendly complexed metal oxide. SOLUTION: This hexagonal system compound metal oxide is composed of sodium cobalt acid, for example, and is produced by repeating a molding/ sintering process more than twice, while having a peak intensity ratio I(002)/I(102) of 15 or in larger two orthogonal directions in X-ray structure diffraction and having a layered structure, with which crystallites are grown further in a two-dimensional direction.
