PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily connect battery modules with each other, reduce cost and weight, raise degree of freedom for layout, and prevent electrolyte leaking when a safety valve works. SOLUTION: A plurality of first batteries 10 are provided with an electrode at the side of a sealing plate 36 having a safety valve 37 as a positive pole 38A, and another electrode at the other end as a negative pole 30B. The first batteries 10 are vertically connected by directing the positive pole 38A upward to constitute a first battery group 10M. On the other hand, a plurality of second batteries 20 are provided with the electrode at the side of sealing plate 36 having the safety valve 37 as the negative pole 38B and the other electrode at the other end as the positive pole 30A. The second batteries 20 are vertically connected by directing the negative pole 38B upward to constitute a second battery group 20M. These battery groups 10M and 20M are placed in parallel, and the negative pole 30B of the first battery 10 and the positive pole 30A of the second battery 20 at the lowest stage are connected.
