A waste water treatment assembly has a chamber with an inlet and an outlet and made of an electrically-insulated material. The chamber has four or more electrodes. An anode electrode has a silver or copper surface (or an alloy with both) surrendering silver and/or copper ions. Also claimed is an associated process of operation in which the electrodes are linked to an electric current control circuit. The electrical supply alternates at between pref. 5 to 500 Hz. The electrodes are positioned to pass current through the entire cross-section of the chamber. At all times, current is flowing between two of the electrodes. Each electrode is operated alternately as cathode and electrode. The silver kills bacteria, and viruses. Copper ions kill algae and spores.
