[Also in Divisions B8 and F2] Segmental belting comprises one or more segment members constructed as shown in Figs. 1, 2, adjacent ends being connected by means of a cabled, die-formed steel tie-bar (not shown) which passes through castellations 13 provided at the ends of each segment member. A reinforcement comprises two layers 2, 3 of rubber-coated steel cords 4 of which ends 5, 6 enclose the ends 7 of a strip 8 of rubber-coated steel cords 9. A stainless steel ferrule 10 is enclosed by the cords 9 and a steel wire staple 12 holds these cords around the ferrule during manufacture of the segment member. The reinforcement and the castellations 13 have a covering of a vulcanized rubber composition 14. In the modification of Fig. 3 (not shown), the castellation 15 is provided with a U-shaped metal insert 16 which protects the steel cords 9 where these pass round the ferrule 10. The reinforcement may comprise one or more layers of woven or non-woven textile fabric. In the case of woven fabric, the warp threads are disposed parallel to the longitudinal axis of the segment member and may be made of nylon. The weft threads are disposed at 90 degrees to the warp threads and may comprise nylon yarns and cotton yarns doubled together. In the case of non-woven fabric, nylon cords are disposed longitudinally of the segment member. The cords which enclose the ferrules may be textile cords and the ferrules may be of a rigid polymer. The repair of conveyer belting constructed according to the invention is referred to. |
