<p>The inventive method detects network congestion which interferes with streaming of multimedia audio and video packets from and reacts to it and guarantees delivery of packets. The streaming of the multimedia audio and video packets is performed when a server process executing on a sending computing device sends the packets to a player process executing on a receiving computing device via a network, such as the Internet. The detection of the network congestion is performed by communicating configuration information including network parameters from a service manager via the network to the at least one sending computing device and to the at least one receiving computing device. The network congestion (80) is then confirming by transmitting and retracting network probes. At least one buffer management technique is executed to limit degradation in the streaming of the packets. The end of the network congestion is detected by transmitting and retracting said network probes and the rate of streaming of the packets is configured accordingly (82, 84).</p> |
