In apparatus for guiding or orienting and uniformly tensioning a running tow of continuous synthetic filaments (preparatory to its advancement to a fibre stapler), a tow ribbon (25) withdrawn from a container (23) passes through a guide eye (26) over and under bars (10) between U-shaped and laterally extending members (11, 12 and 15, 16) across bars or rollers removably and selectively mounted in slots (18, 21) of plates (17, 20) to enable tension adjustment, through a guide eye (22), and the emerging narrow band of filaments is advanced by a godet roll (27).
