PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initiator that makes the molecular control possible when used in a process for producing a vinyl acetate polymer by using an alkyl/transition metal complex and a process for producing a vinyl acetate polymer comprising using the initiator. SOLUTION: A vinyl acetate polymer is produced by using a vinyl acetate polymer initiator comprising an alkyl/transition metal complex and a stable radical.
