<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem where generation of a second pulse is required within a very short time, after the generation of a first pulse in an optical switch using a method performing the switching of photoresposive media by the first and second pulses by utilizing resonantly pulses having opposite phases. SOLUTION: This optical switching device is provided with photoresponsive media or an optical resonance system, and constitution of a pulse source transmitting a first photoirradiation pulse and a second photoirradiation pulse to the resonance system and the device is featured by this first pulse, which causes coherent excitation of the optical resonance system to be generated for changing its optical characteristic and the second pulse which has a phase, which causes the coherent excitation generated by the first pulse to perform transition downward and the element of the resonance system which maintains the coherent excitation generated by the first pulse, until it is caused to make transition downward by the second pulse and which can be driven from the outside. Element, such as optical amplifier or laser which can be driven from the outside of the resonance system maintains coherent excitation generated by the first pulse, until it is caused to perform downward transition by the second pulse.</p> |
