PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precursor package for a carbon fiber and its production method which can prevent the increase of bacteria or moss and thus prevent the carbon fiber from becoming less strong even when a high moisture percent age precursor for a carbon fiber is stored for a long time. SOLUTION: This relates to a precursor package for a carbon fiber and its production method where the precursor is wrapped with a film whose oxygen permeability is 200 ml/ (m2/24 hr/atm) or less and thickness is 20-200μm in a moisture percentage 3-150 wt.%. The package is sealed while the same is treated, as it becomes necessary, with one or more treatments (1)-(4) listed as fallow: (1) insertion of a deoxidizer, (2) deaeration for degree of vacuum of 30-700 Torr, (3) partial or total replacement of a gas sealed in the package with an inert gas, (4) preferably 5-120 minutes hot sterilization at 40-130 deg.C.
