PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spring type bumper capable of applying even to a high speed region. SOLUTION: This bumper for an elevator has an elastic cushioning body installed within a pit positioned in the lowermost part of a hoistway and elastically deformable according to the force applied downward; and an elasto-plastic cushioning body which elastically deforms in a region where the force applied in the lower direction is smaller than the specified value and plastically deforms in a region larger than the specified region, and this elastic cushioning body is supported so that the elastic cushioning body has initial compression force.
