PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave filter miniaturized while having satisfactory selection degree characteristics over a wide passband. SOLUTION: Concerning the surface acoustic wave filter constituted by forming input and output IDT electrodes on a piezoelectric substrate 101 and locating an input IDT electrode 102 and an output IDT electrode 103 with a prescribed distance, the input IDT electrode 102 is provided with a unidirectional exciting electrode basic cell 104, a first non-exciting electrode basic cell 105 and a second non-exciting electrode basic cell 106 and the output IDT electrode 103 is provided with a unidirectional exciting electrode basic cell 107, a first non-exciting electrode basic cell 108 and a second non-exciting electrode basic cell 109.
