PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure superior running performance and durability by using a lubricant which sustains its lubricating effect over a long period of time and enhancing the stability of adhesion of the lubricant to a protective film. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a nonmagnetic substrate 2, a magnetic layer 3 formed on one principal force of the substrate 2, a protective film 4 formed on the magnetic layer 3 and a back coat layer 5 formed on the other principal face of the substrate 2. A 1st lubricative layer with an aromatic alcohol and an ester compound of a perfluoro-polyether having hydroxyl groups at the ends and a long chain carboxylic acid has been held on the protective film 4 and a 2nd lubricative layer with an ester compound of a perfluoro-polyether having hydroxyl groups at the ends and a long chain carboxylic acid has been held on the back coat layer 5.
