An information collecting unit collects speed information which changes based on road structure from a sensor (23). A CPU selects particular region image from different monitoring region images based on collected information, and detects approaching of an object based on which danger of contact with the approaching object is decided. An Independent claim is also included for environment monitoring apparatus.
