PURPOSE: A retractable handle for a power connector is provided to move a handle to a position in which a detent provides sufficient force and to easily couple or decouple a connector from a mating connector. CONSTITUTION: A retractable handle(42) for a power connector has an extended rotatable position. The retractable handle is movable to a retracted and stowed condition. The handle is advantageously moved to an extended position in which a detent provides sufficient force. The handle is used in operation for coupling or de-coupling the connector from a mating connector. When in the stowed retracted position, the handle is unobtrusive and does not interfere with adjacent moving objects. The handle includes a detent mechanism(70) providing sufficient force to hold the handle in the extended rotatable position or the stowed, retracted position.
