PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gravity balancer for a vertical articulated industrial robot, freely rearrangeable according to a floor laying or hanging installation attitude. SOLUTION: This gravity balancer 10 comprising a cylinder 11, a rod 12 and a spring 13 extended between the cylinder 11 and the rod 12, is rearrangeable into a form functioning as a tension spring from a form functioning as a compression spring. The rod 12 is provided with a support 12b for supporting the spring 13, and the fitting position of the support 12b to the rod 12 is changeable.
