<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve timing mechanism of an internal combustion engine capable of inhibiting unsuitable release of fixing by a stopper mechanism for the relative rotational phase of a cam shaft in the state of advance timing by a designated amount from the most retard state at the engine start. SOLUTION: At the engine start, the relative rotational phase of an intake cam shaft to a crankshaft is fixed in the state of advance timing by a designated amount from the most retard state by the stopper mechanism 56. In this state, in a first passage 71 and a first oil hole 72 for feeding hydraulic operating fluid from the retard side oil pressure chamber 70 (oil pressure chamber to which the hydraulic operating fluid is fed at the engine start) to the stopper mechanism 56 to release the above fixing, an opening part 72a of the first oil hole 72 opened in the retard side oil pressure chamber 70 is shielded by a vane 68a. Accordingly, at the engine start, the hydraulic operating fluid is fed from the retard side oil pressure chamber 70 to the stopper mechanism 56, thereby releasing fixing of the relative rotational phase of the intake cam shaft.</p> |
