PURPOSE: A processing device for a playback pulse in a VCR(Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to prevent an error data from being output through deciding an error in additional information played back from a control track of a magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION: A signal from an input signal process unit is stored in an input buffer(901). A head detect unit(902) detects a head from the signal for outputting a normality deciding signal to a pulse missing detect unit(907A), and a user data detect unit(903) and a time data detect unit(904) output a user data and a time data to a checksum test unit(907). In a normal mode, a recording mode detect unit(905) decides recorded type of an image signal based on a data recorded in an input buffer additional unit(901A). Therefore, a detect target of a tail detect unit(906) is decided.
