<p>A high security lock mechanism for use in prisons comprises a bolt member 10 moveable between extended and retracted positions by a rack 28 and pinion 80 drive system driven through a linkage 188 by an electric motor 160. The lock mechanism also includes second drive means which may be electrically or manually operated for moving the bolt member 10. The linkage 188 includes a lost motion arrangement, such as telescopic members 190, 196, to permit the second drive means to drive the rack and pinion drive system without back-driving the electric motor 160. The lock mechanism also includes a deadbolt assembly 50 for locking the bolt member 10 in its extended locking position. The deadbolt assembly is disengaged from the bolt member 10 during initial movement of either drive means and before movement of the rack and pinion drive system. A restraint system 220 prevents movement of the bolt member 10 to its extended position when the door carrying the lock mechanism is open.</p> |
