PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the decomposition of an aliphatic chlorine compound using microorganism and provide a microorganism for the method. SOLUTION: A microorganism belonging to the genus Mycobacterium and capable of decomposing aliphatic chlorine compounds is brought into contact with an aliphatic chlorine compound or a composition containing the compound to effect the decomposition of the compound. A typical example of the microorganism is Mycobacterium chlorophenolicum AK-1 (FERM P-17692) assimilating propane and decomposing trichloroethylene.
