A magnetic drive mechanism (1) is provided which comprises a first rotatable shaft (4) and a crank means (5) including a second rotatable shaft (8) linked to the first shaft. A first, cam-shaped magnet (2) is mounted for eccentric movement on the first shaft (4) and a second, block magnet (3) is mounted on the second shaft (4) of the crank means (5) for reciprocating movement relative to the first shaft (4). The magnets (2) and (3) are maintained in close proximity during operation so that a reciprocating movement of the second magnet (3) is accompanied by rotations of the first and second shaft (4) and (8).
