In the centrifugal pump shown, the tangential discharge conduit 1a is of rectangular crosssection at its outlet opening and is followed by a transition mouthpiece 32 having a rectangular inlet opening 2 and a circular outlet opening at a flange 34. The walls of the mouthpiece 32 comprise four planar isosceles triangular portions 4, the bases 5 of which define the sides of the rectangular inlet opening 2 and the apices 6 of which are located on the circumference of the circular outlet opening at 90 degree intervals. The sides 7 of each triangular portion 4 are joined to the adjacent sides of the two adjacent triangular portions by wall portions 8 which are concave on the inside of the mouthpiece, whereby a smooth flow path of constant cross-sectional area is provided between the rectangular inlet opening 2 and the circular outlet opening. |
