PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small printer having no restriction on the arrangement of a sheet feed mechanism in which a signal thermal head can be used for different print systems while switching through a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: Platen rollers 4, 5 for thermal transfer print system and thermal print system are disposed around a holding roller 3 where a thermal head 2 is located. Rotation of the holding roller 3 is controlled at a rotation control section 6 such that the plated roller 4 or 5 faces the thermal head 2 depending on a selected print system. An input control section 39 switches the input direction of a print data signal into the thermal head 2 depending on a selected print system so that printing is performed under a constant state regardless of the print system. Since the platen rollers 4, 5 and the thermal head 2 are positioned by a positioning mechanism when the holding roller 3 is rotated, a high print quality can be sustained.
