In a sanitary closet having a seat 17 and hinged cover 18 mounted on a bowl 19 communicating with a holding tank 11, 12 via an opening controlled by a valve, e.g. a pivoted flap 23 operated by a plunger 37, the bowl is flushed with disinfecting liquid drawn up by a pump 30 from tank compartment 12 and distributed by conduit 41 two-way valve 42 and conduit 43, a rotary macerator being located in tank compartment 11. By altering the position of the valve 42 the liquid may be pumped out of the closet via a discharge pipe 44 (Figs. 1, 2 not shown). The pump and macerator may be driven by a common push-button operated electric motor. The partition 13 between the tank compartments is provided with louvres arranged to prevent passage of large solid bodies and to resist free flow of liquid to assist by a whirlpool action the action of the macerator. |
